Bigagnoli
For Alessio Bigagnoli, winemaking is a project that came together after years of study, experiments, and hard work. Alessio started to produce wine in small quantities in a garage while he worked as a wine analyst. He made his first bottled vintage in 2012, and his efforts were rewarded when he won the Genova Garage Wine Contest with his Bardolino Chiaretto Metodo Classico. Getting the validation he had been seeking for some time gave him the strength and confidence to make wine full-time, and Bigagnoli since 2012 was born. Starting from a vineyard that belonged to his family, he has now reached a yearly production of 10,000 bottles (~830 cases) from 3 hectares (~7.5 acres) of organic vineyards located not too far from the shores of Lake Garda in Calmasino, where Alessio was born and raised. On hilly morainic soil he grows Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, Garganega, and Oseleta, all native varieties of the Bardolino wine region. He also produces olive oil that he sells to local restaurants and honey for his personal consumption.
