Cascina delle Rocche
Beppe Scavino and his family have been making wine since 2011, but the vineyards have been in the family for generations. Beppe, his wife Clara, and their children, Laura and Luca, are very attached to their land and to the peasant tradition, carrying out and personally following all the vineyard and cellar processes. They practice sustainable farming and are members of The Green Experience which promotes eco-friendly and sustainable viticulture and wine production. The family owns 20 hectares (~49 acres) on the Moncucco hill in Santo Stefano Belbo, located in the Langhe wine region of Piemonte. This is the heart of Moscato d’Asti where, at the foot of the same hill, the moscato bianco vines were first cultivated by the Romans and Benedictine monks. The vines thrive on the steep slopes of the sorì with inclines from 40 to over 60 per cent where mechanical machinery cannot be utilized, and all work must be done manually. Their yearly production is about 8,500 bottles (~710 cases) of Moscato d’Asti, Barbera d’Asti, Langhe Chardonnay, Dolcetto d’Alba, Langhe Freisa, and Langhe Rosso.
