Cogli l’Attimo, meaning “Seize the Moment,” is the vibrant new project of Serena Anselma, a young and passionate winemaker from Novello, a tiny village of just 1,000 residents in one of the eleven official Barolo-producing municipalities. Serena has always been deeply passionate about wine. For years, her family sold their grapes for bulk production, but she dreamed of one day using their old vineyards to craft her own wines. In 2016 while close to graduating in Foreign Languages and Literature from the University of Torino, she took the leap and founded her own winery. She hoped for support from European funding programs, but when the aid never came, she pressed on anyway, reclaiming her grandparents’ land and planting new vines, though full production didn’t begin until 2021. Today, while working full-time as a high school French teacher she produces about 15,000 bottles annually. Her lineup includes two expressions of Nascetta—a rare and recently rediscovered native white grape—offered in both direct press and skin-contact styles; she also produces Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Barolo. True to her values, Serena approaches both vineyard and cellar work with respect for the land and the people who will ultimately enjoy her wines. She and her mother handle most of the vineyard tasks themselves, with her father stepping in on weekends for the heavier tractor work.
