Redondèl

Redondèl, located in in the middle of the Rotaliana plain in Mezzolombardo, defines itself as a “small agricultural reality” and is dedicated entirely to Teroldego Rotaliano from which they make 21,000 bottles (~1,750 cases) a year. Paolo and his wife Mara have been managing the winery since 2001 and are carrying on Paolo’s long family tradition of winemaking. His grandfather already produced Teroldego when Trentino was still under the Austro-Hungarian empire and sold it to the Austrian neighbors. His father was both a winemaker and a horse dealer, and the wine he exported to Austria was often paid for in horses. Paolo’s profound knowledge of the territory and great peasant wisdom started when at just nine years of age his father would wake him at dawn to accompany him in the vineyards, seven parcels totaling just over 3 hectares (~8.5 acres) which have always been worked organically with the utmost respect for the needs of the vines and the soil. As Paolo puts it: he makes wine because he wouldn’t know what else to do, and he is proud of it.
